15th November 1906

In reply to your letter of the 8th November as to the

Canton Pailway I beg to

supply of cement for the Kowloon

inform you that we could lay down cement in Hong Kong at the

present time at the cost of about 32/- a ton. Mr. Avea 18

paying 25 dollars which represents.in sterling at 2/3 - the

current rate of exchange & sim of 57/9 so that there would be

a considerable saving in importing cement from England.

According to the Colonial regulations stores are only

allowed to be purchased locally, if they are of local manufacture

and provided this is e case, we do not wish to press the point.

But if the cement used by "r. "ves is an imported article, there

would not appear to be any reason why it should not be purchased

through this arency. We request you to make enquiry as to this

master.
